Thinking of Work as Tours of Duty

Early, On I was very much confused what I was professionally. And it took me a while to realize I didn’t have to be called anything. I had studied Business IT at Strathmore University and a Masters in Commerce/Operations after winning EABL Scholarship. Then I took up CIPS to try and bolster my supply chain/international procurement work. And dabbled writing 2 books for high school kids Unstoppable and Different Millionaires. And speaking to high school students all of it now become Mentorthon. But then the project changed. So I picked up readings on tax, balance sheet, statement of cashflows and […]

Unconditional, Papa Joe and Love

This is the review of the movie that I received on my email…It read A woman’s idyllic life is shattered when her husband is killed in a senseless act of violence. As she prepares to take matters into her own hands, two unexpected encounters begin to change everything. It was intriguing but not enough for me to watch until Ebony asked that we watch it! So we watched it one Sunday evening in the house and loved every bit of it. It is based on the true events in the life of Papa Joe, Jason Brandford, who gave his life […]

Avana, designed and built by Questworks

DesignBuild as Method to Delivery Projects

This is Avana, one of our largest turnkey project. Our team is doing all engineering procurement and construction (EPC) /designbuild work for the 104 apartments, 12 floors on Ngong Road. We are now on the last floor, just completed sample apartment and underway with international and local procurement to begin finishes. Traditionally, such a project would require around 6 consulting firms (architect, project manager, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers, quantity Surveyors) And possibly 3-6 contractor firms (main contractor, several subcontractors). Secrets of Adulthood /Happiness by Gretchen Rubin

People don’t notice your mistakes as much as you think. It’s OK to ask for help Most decisions don’t need extensive research Do Good, feel good Be nice to everyone Bring a sweater By doing a little each day, you can get a lot accomplished Soap and water remove most stains A way to fix a computer glitch is to turn it on and off a few times If you can’t find something, clean up You Can choose what you do, you can’t choose what you like to do What you do every day matters more than what you do […]

Differrent Millionaires by Tim Kipchumba and Rosemary Kibui

With 7 billion people, we are 7 billion different in the world. Perhaps the biggest celebration of life is to live it in the way that best takes advantage of how different we are. And then excel while doing it. Different Millionaires is a book about the principles and the stories of those people, who chose to think, believe and are different. Nothing guarantees excellence. Not even this book. But this Different Millionaires is for is for everyone who wants to be a different millionaire and help others be by doing by doing things that best suit who they really […]

Remembering Kofi Annan

As we walked with him on Trafalgar Square, it was difficult to tell he was a Nobel Laureate and a global statesman. He was unassuming, humble calm and very attentive. I still recall his words to us: You are not too old to learn or too young to lead. We had asked him whether The Elders would intervene as following the annulment of the presidential election and he said, ‘No we don’t have a mandate but I have faith in Kenya. Read more

Mentorthon: Using Role Modelling and Stories to Inspire Self-Control

One of the most valuable skill – proven scientifically to predict character, incomes, happiness is self- control. At Mentorthon, we try and show how this has helped or not helped mentors so that storytelling, role modelling and speaking can allow students persevere more. Any chance you can show young people a way to persevere, to hang in there, to skip the icecream is a chance you show them how to excel in sports, do well in school, earn more, have happier relationships  #2018Mentorthon.
